Essential oil of the Week
For thousands of years ginger has been a prized culinary spice. Native to southern Asia but also cultivated in India, Japan and the Caribbean region this spice has many uses.
It is frequently added to perfumes and personal care items.
Probably the greatest benefit of ginger is its effect on digestion. Eating fresh raw ginger can aid in decreasing complaints such as upset stomach, indigestion, gas, cramps and diarrhea. It can be brewed as a tea which can help to sooth the stomach.
When inhaled it can relieve congestion in the head, chest and sinuses. It can also ease a cough or sore throat. This is a stimulating herb and works well in massage to relieve sore muscles, arthritic joints, strains and sprains.
Ginger is a holiday treat and can bring back warm memories when served as a dessert.
