The walnut is a simple but amazingly powerful nut. High in Omega 3's this nut can help prevent cardiovascular disease, cancers, arthritis and nervous system disorders. They help fight inflammation and are an excellent source of Vitamin B and fiber.
They can also lower bad cholesterol, blood pressure and increase elasticity of arteries.
The variety most popular is the so-called English walnut.
They are best stored in the shell as they can go rancid easily. If you are buying them shelled store them in the frig or freezer to retain freshness. Buy them whole and not chopped as oxidation causes them to loose their goodness!
A holiday just isn't the same with out a walnut. My favorite- Waldorf salad!
