Essential oil of the week - vanilla
Vanilla is one of the most well known smells we have. It is a comforting oil that is associated with foods such as ice cream and cake but it can also bring comforting thought and memories especially when burned in a candle. This oil is a calming oil and can be used to decrease stress, relieve headaches and decrease anxiety.
The strong essential oils come from the beans housed inside a pod which grow on large climbing vines in Mexico, Central America, Tahiti,Indonesia and Eastern Africa.
One of the best uses for Vanilla is to curb appetite. When inhaled it can quell hunger and food cravings and when ingested it can help sooth the stomach and settle queasiness.
This essential oil is very versatile and you should use it frequently.
Take a vanilla scented bath and treat your partner to a night of romance!

Did you know eucalyptus is one of the tallest trees in the world? I had no idea! This tree is native to Australia but is also cultivated in California, northern Africa, Spain, China and India. The oil is obtained from the fresh leaves of the tree.
This oil if classified as clarifying and can be very toxic if ingested. It should only be used externally in a diluted form. It is good for soothing burns, cuts , insect bites and minor skin infections. It is also powerful when inhaled for decreasing congestion, asthma and sore throats. It can be placed in a diffuser and combined with sweet orange, frankincense and lavender to prevent colds and flu.
When used in massage it can benefit muscular aches and pains and arthritis due to its anti-inflammatory effects.
It shouldn't be used for babies or small children due to its ability to decrease respiration.
If you haven't- try this oil out if you are under the weather by using it in an inhaler or diffuser. Just one more way to use Mother Earth's pharmacy!
